Faculty recognize that the choice of instructional materials shall be based on the intellectual and pedagogical merits of those materials, as determined by the faculty members disciplinary expertise and the commonly held practices of his or her discipline. The Board and faculty agree that the adoption process must visibly protect both the educational and financial interests of the students. (ASCCC Paper, Textbook Issues: Economic Pressures and Academic Values, adopted Spring 2005, p. 11) Accordingly, in those instances where the faculty member has created or produced his or her own instructional materials for a course that s/he is assigned to teach, the faculty member shall ensure that these materials are provided to students at the cost of production, unless these materials are also used in educational institutions outside the district.
